“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”
― Mark Twain

We all have anger, it is part of being a human being, but as culture has evolved it is no longer socially acceptable for us to let out extreme bursts of anger and for good reason too because uncontrollable rage can lead to much pain for both the angry and anyone within distance. Anger can lead to problems with relationships, work and the law, and can lead to serious health problems such as high blood pressure, skin conditions, depression and many more.

Those of us who require anger management are those that are susceptible to these extreme bursts and struggle to control them. Anger management can help us control and reduce triggers, degrees and effects of an angered emotional state. Also teaching self-relaxation techniques and using hypnosis techniques to keep the client from succumbing to uncontrollable outbursts.

Is it normal to suffer from anger? Is it also normal to seek anger management.

Yes! Anger is completely biological and everyone suffers from it, yes some people may have 'shorter fuses' and some people will have more reasons to be angry than others, but everyone suffers from anger. Anger is acceptable, but needs to be controlled and then released in a productive fashion. Below are some stats that show just how common anger really is:-

  • 1 in 3 people say they have a close friend or family member who suffers from anger.

  • 1 in 4 people worry about how angry they get themselves, often.

  • 2 in 3 people believe people are getting angrier.

  • 8.5 in 10 people believe people should be encouraged to look for help if they suffer from anger.

  • People who search for help are most likely to do so with a GP, therapist, nurse or counsellor, than from friends, family, employment, social services or voluntary organisations.

(Mental Health Organisation: Boiling Point Report 2008)

Despite these statistics, their is growing concern that GPs themselves struggle to offer effective services to help sufferers of anger, and too few of them recommend alternate services, such as therapies. Studies do show that anger can be effectively dealt with, when using the correct program of treatment.
